Sprinkler systems are inherently high maintenance, and this can be true regardless of the age of the system.
Sprinkler systems are primarily comprised of all plastic parts that exist throughout a property. These plastic parts are subject to damage from lawnmowers, foot traffic, vehicles, vandalism, root growth, plant growth, re-mulching projects, cut wires, and the list goes on to include controllers, valves and sensors malfunctioning.
It is reasonable to expect a useful life of anywhere between 7 and 12 years for the various components of a sprinkler system. As a sprinkler system ages, just like an old car, they begin to require more service. For example, a single valve may fail one year and then two more valves will fail the next year. As the various components age, they will need to be systematically replaced. Ultimately the system hits another sweet spot in its life of service and only annual tune-ups will be required for the next 7 to 12 years.
Rebuilding an entire sprinkler system is seldom a cost-effective solution, nor is replacing all the components with moving parts all at once. This is equivalent to taking the old car to a mechanic and asking them to replace everything even though everything hasn’t failed yet.
However, if we are already on site and it’s reasonable to assume that additional components are on the verge of failing then we will provide options to replace or rebuild that component and allow the customer to decide. Often, this is just the cost of the component and added labor charges are zero or minimal. An equivalent would be your auto mechanic saying to you:
“So, I had to take apart all of this to get to the faulty part but while I’m here and I have access to this other part which I think will fail soon, and since it’s not an expensive part plus no additional charge in labor, would you like me to replace it before I put everything back together?”
The take away here is that proactive maintenance is an attribute of an excellent mechanic and we are good irrigators and are consistently looking at how to maximize your dollar and lower your annual operating costs. We would love the opportunity to earn your business. Some of the many services we provide:
