First, we will ask that you email us a copy of the pool plan prior to coming out. This gives us a bird eye view of the project scope and we can immediately ascertain the preliminary parameters. Second, we will schedule a time and date for a service visit. During this visit there is a few things we will do:
- We will Look at your irrigation system configuration and determine where the water meter, controller, mainline, and valves within the pool perimeter are located. We will also note which heads are on which valves that will be removed. In some cases, and if pertinent we will also notate the direction for some of the lateral lines. We document all this information on your pool plan, provide you with a copy and put a second copy in our company cloud. This punch list allows for the following:
- To do a “cut and cap” on the mainline which will keep the construction area from being flooded and allow you to use as much of your irrigation system as possible during the next 45 to 90 days. The time of the year, your work schedule, ability to hand water, or the size of your landscape will affect how important this is to you. In past projects where, new turf was recently installed which must be watered every day, we have installed above ground temporary irrigation or an above ground mainline during a pool construction. This is seldom applicable to most projects but the take away should be that every landscape is different, every irrigation system is different, and every pool installation is different, but whatever your scenario is we can provide you with options and affordable solutions.
- During this first visit we will also talk to you about having any “sleeves” installed, what size they should be, how many, where they should go, and how important they are if we recommended some need to be installed. A sleeve is a large diameter pipe that goes under the base material (gravel) before any concrete is poured. After the concrete is poured this large diameter pipe now under the concrete will serve as a tunnel where we can run new pipes and wires (sometimes several pipes and wires in a single sleeve) from one side of the new concrete to the other. In some cases, they are imperative but, in all cases, the final project is significantly cheaper than if they didn’t exist if we recommended them. It’s for these reasons we prefer to install them ourselves.
- At this time if you like we can discuss with you some preliminary ideas on landscaping & lighting whether your plans are simple or elaborate. The irrigation system is the last thing to be designed and they are always designed for a specific hard-scape and soft-scape (see: Irrigation Design – Build).
- After the pool construction is completed (45 to 90 days later) and a finalized landscape plan is in place then the irrigation pool reroute can begin. This is where the documentation and locations that were notated has value as it allows for us to repurpose your former pipes and heads with minimal guess work.
This first visit takes anywhere between an hour and a half to two hours to complete so it’s not expensive and allows for smooth transitions.
